A Marvel-lous week ahead!

Well, can you believe we are charging towards December already! Next week we are welcoming back Professor Martin Hendry from University of Glasgow, who last visited the club a couple of years ago with a mind-blowing talk on Gravitational Waves. This time though, he will be delving into the science being the Marvel movies- it’s going to be alot of fun and something a bit different and light-hearted for our audience!

It’s not been a bad week for our clubs astrophotographers with a couple of clear evenings, the astrophotography whatsapp chat ignited with excitement on what targets to go for along with some troubleshooting and also some images as the night went on!

In other space news -

You may know by now Blue Origins New Glenn second mission launching the twin Escapade spacecraft to Mars, was a huge success with the nominal deployment of both spacecraft and also the first stage booster returned to land successfully on the drone ship ‘Jacklyn’ - a huge step forward for Blue Origin. It’s so great to see more companies embrace reusability with their vehicles!

NASA released detailed images of interstellar comet 3i/ATLAS, offering a new insight into how such visitors behave as they pass through our solar system.

A CME (Coronal Mass Ejection) has been detected on another star. Red Dwarf star with the catchy name: StKM 1-1262 is located around 130 light-years away was detected ejecting material which is estimated to travel at 1500 mps, a speed only seen 1 - 2000 of our Suns CME’s. This discovery will open a new frontier in exo-space weather and how these massive eruptions might affect planets beyond our Solar System!
